A Brief History of the Faculty

The Faculty of Educational Sciences at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, as the seventh faculty of this university, was established on October 17, 1973. The faculty officially began its activities with the enrollment of 200 students in the Psychology Department. Prior to the independent establishment of the faculty, from 1969, students in the Psychology program were admitted within the Faculty of Literature at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad.

In 1975, the Faculty of Educational Sciences was located in a rented building with an area of approximately 1300 square meters, and a few years later, in the academic year 1983–1982, it moved to its current building with an area of 6150 square meters. During this period, the faculty officially began educational activities in two undergraduate programs: Psychology and Educational Sciences.

In line with the expansion of educational activities, in the academic year 1986–1985, the program of Library and Information Science was established at the associate degree level. This program began admitting students at the bachelor’s level in 1991 and at the master’s level in 1997, thereby expanding the faculty’s academic activities.

Additionally, the Physical Education and Sports Sciences program, which received approval for establishment at the bachelor’s level in 1984, officially started in the academic year 1988–1987. This program was separated from the Faculty of Educational Sciences after the establishment of the independent Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Sciences in 1993.

Alongside educational activities, the Faculty of Educational Sciences, aiming to guide and respond to the issues and problems of students at the university and other educational centers, established the Psychology and Student Counseling Clinic in 1983, which has played a significant role in providing specialized psychological services.

The Faculty of Educational Sciences and Psychology at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, as one of the oldest and most important higher education institutions in eastern Iran, officially began its activities in 1973.
